Presiding Officers Release Statements Following the Adjournment of the 132nd Legislature

AUGUSTA, Maine – On Wednesday, the 132nd Maine Legislature adjourned sine die (“without day”).

Legislative leaders issued the following statements:

“As we adjourn the 132nd Legislature, I’m thinking about the kitchen table conversations across our state that shaped this work — the cost of groceries, the price of raising a family, and the pressure so many Mainers are feeling just trying to move forward,” said Senate President Mattie Daughtry (D-Brunswick). “While so much of the conversation in Washington over the past year has been defined by chaos, division, and vitriol, here in Maine, we stayed focused on making targeted investments to lower costs, strengthen our communities, and build a future people can count on. This session was about making sure Maine people can get ahead, thrive, and stay here. We promised to do everything we could to protect what we all know Maine can be — and we delivered: the way life should be.”

“In our work this session, we have been laser-focused on the real issues facing Maine people,” said House Speaker Ryan D. Fecteau (D-Biddeford). “Every day here in Augusta, Democrats have advocated for hardworking Mainers. We have fought for those who are striving for a better life, those who care for our vulnerable neighbors, those who teach our kids, those who want a future where they can get ahead – not just get by.  This session, Democrats championed initiatives that would lower housing, energy, child care, health care and everyday costs, to make sure people of all ages see opportunity in Maine to work, to raise a family, and to build a life. That’s what Mainers expect from their leaders, and I’m proud of the work we have done together.”

The general effective date for nonemergency bills passed in the Second Regular Session of the 132nd Legislature is Wednesday, July 29, 2026.
