Speaker Fecteau and Representative Gattine Issue Statements on Governor Mills’ Budget Proposal

AUGUSTA – Speaker of the House Ryan D. Fecteau (D-Biddeford) and Representative Drew Gattine (D-Westbrook), House Chair of the Appropriations and Financial Affairs Committee, today issued the following statements on Governor Mills’ budget proposal:

“This supplemental budget includes proposals to address the challenges that legislative Democrats have put front and center this session: the rising costs of housing, energy, and everyday necessities that are pinching the budgets of Maine people,” said Speaker Fecteau. “I am pleased to see the continued commitment to building more homes for working families, and making sure teachers get paid a wage that reflects how much we value their commitment to educating our young people. In the weeks to come, as public hearings are held and the Appropriations Committee does its work, we will remain focused on initiatives that lower costs for Maine people, so they can get ahead and stay ahead.”

“Legislative Democrats have emphasized that this session we must prioritize addressing the affordability challenges facing Maine people, and I expect the budget deliberations this year will focus on challenges like the cost of housing, health care, energy, food and education,” said Representative Gattine. “I am glad to see that the Governor’s proposal embraces this focus. In the coming weeks, this bill will come to the Appropriations Committee, where we will have a public hearing process and deliberation among committee members and the policy committees to figure out which measures in the budget will do the most good for as many Mainers as possible.”
