House Democrats Nominate Ryan Fecteau for another term as Speaker of the House in the 133rd Maine Legislature

Speaker Fecteau also served as Speaker in the 130th and 132nd legislatures

AUGUSTA, Maine - Maine House Speaker Ryan D. Fecteau (D-Biddeford) today was nominated by House Democratic members-elect to serve as Speaker of the House in the 133rd Maine Legislature.

“I am honored by the continued trust my colleagues have placed in me to lead House Democrats in the 133rd Legislature,” said Speaker Fecteau. “Together, we will work steadfast to address the challenges we face – from healthcare to childcare to affordable housing to energy costs – so that every family in Maine can get ahead, not just get by. We see a future where we build upon the strengths of our state while protecting the rights and freedoms of every Mainer. As I have done throughout my career, I will continue to work across the aisle, building trust and making sure that we respect people’s time, work productively, and most importantly, deliver results for Maine people.”

Speaker Fecteau was nominated for re-election by Representatives Michelle Boyer (D- Cape Elizabeth) and Morgan Rielly (D-Westbrook).

“Part of the Speaker’s job is to keep this body moving and keep it steady. Ryan consistently does both,” said Representative Boyer. “Electing Ryan as Speaker of the House will ensure us all that our chamber will operate efficiently and allow us to focus on the important work we are here to do.”

“The people of Maine have given us a mandate to fight back against the chaos from the current presidential administration and tech oligarchs,” said Representative Rielly. “But they have also given us a mandate to govern: to protect our environment, make housing affordable for homeowners and renters, and ensure Maine’s workers and families always come first. Speaker Fecteau has shown he can govern and he has shown that he can fight for the people of Maine.”

When the 133rd Legislature is sworn in on December 3rd and Speaker Fecteau is formally re-elected, he will begin his third term as Speaker of the House and his sixth term in the Maine House of Representatives. He will be the first Speaker of the House to serve three terms since Speaker John Martin (D-Eagle Lake) in 1992.
